Fight Germs Naturally

When the weather starts to change and school starts up it seems like people just tend to catch bugs and illnesses much easier. I have been trying to keep the germs at bay and avoid getting sick this year, but unfortunately I failed. When I am sick, I still do my absolute best to keep germs and microbes from scattering all over causing others potential threats of becoming ill, so I turn to the things that we all seem to keep on hand, the main item being antibacterial hand gel. My only concern is that these store bought gels might not be doing all we need.

The sanitizers and other antimicrobials found in stores have aided in creating bugs that are strong enough to now resist manmade antibacterial gels. These certain strains that can resist all the hand sanitizer you can imagine are not only still getting you sick, but also creating a danger to our planet. Our earth is already geared up to tackle germs and bugs, so why are we not taking advantage of all that it is offering? It is easier than you might think.

When I thought about all of the incredible natural antimicrobials out there I was ready to start my own hand sanitizer project. Seriously, numerous essential oils are able to eliminate even the worst microbes. Lavender, lemon, clove, and tea tree oils are most people’s top picks, but you will have to do some research to make sure which will be the best fit for you. Smell, characteristics, and the safety of the oils should definitely be researched prior to creating your own antibacterial blend. For me, I chose to go with the lavender essential oil. It is an incredible antiseptic and I like the smell. Along with an essential oil that is a known antimicrobial, you will also need a good amount of aloe vera gel. Once you have those two things (that’s right, it only takes two ingredients) get to work.

Mix together about three cups of aloe vera gel with 20 to 30 drops of your choice of essential oil. Stir the mixture together until it is very well combined. Once it is completely mixed, you should store it in an opaque bottle. By putting it in that type of container you will increase its shelf life. It only takes a couple of minutes to do, and you will find that you prefer it over the drying store bought variety. Play with the mixture too if you feel you need more or less oil, it’s up to you.
